ABN – Zimbabwe’s national broadcaster ZBC has terminated 300 employee contracts in response to a landmark ruling by the country’s Supreme Court.
The ruling permits employers to terminate workers’ employment contracts simly by giving them three months’ notice, without fear of rebuttal.
It is thought that more than 20,000 people across Zimbabwe have already lost their jobs as a result of the ruling.
Employees dismissed by ZBC include newsreader Evermore Sandati, business journalist Lennon Mutseura and reporter Fletcher Ndhlovu.
Just last week the broadcaster fired its CEO Happison Muchechetere and three other executives who had been suspended for financial imprudence.
