ABN - LUX* Resorts & Hotels has furthered its pledge to clean energy by trading its diesel-based power for 130 solar panels and batteries to power its resort on the Mauritian island of Ile des Deux Cocos.
The 20kWp project is part of the luxury hotel chain’s Tread Lightly initiative, with the hi-tech design and storage system allowing for 11 hours of utilisation daily, while also providing the hotel with self-sufficiency through the night-time.
The move to 100% renewable energy reliance at its off-grid property in the Southeast of Mauritius follows many similar eco-friendly initiatives under the scheme, which involves guest participation in carbon-offsetting policies.
Vishnee Payen, sustainability & CSR manager at LUX* said: “We are dependent on the environment and it is our duty to protect it for ourselves and for future generations to come.
“LUX* will continue its journey towards renewable energy solutions and eco-products as far as possible and at the same time contributing to the economy and supporting communities.”
The Mauritius-based hotel chain also has properties in Maldives, Reunion and Turkey with further openings to come in 2018 across multiple destinations.
